Cobo provides an easy to use cloud-based portal where customers are able to view and manage network health. Various network health metrics are collected locally and forwarded to the cloud portal by a device we call “The Surfer.” From within the portal authorized users are able to view network health metrics, set thresholds for alarms, establish notification policies, search a database of historical network events, and even securely access network devices.
The Surfer is a small hardware device that locally collects health information from network devices. It is shipped pre-configured from Cobo to the customer location and connects to a local ethernet port. The Surfer uses SNMP, syslog, ping, and ARP to collect network health information. These health metrics are then forwarded to the Cobo cloud portal via an HTTPs web client.
COBO can monitor any reachable device that supports ping, syslog, or SNMP. Of course the level of information presented depends on the method used. The richest level of real-time monitoring is via SNMP.
As a guideline, the Surfer can support about 200 devices. The scale may vary with the amount of information you choose to collect on your individual network.
